What A Trip: Actually Purchasing A Classic Mustang

I really haven’t much gotten to post on my web site nearly as often as I would’ve liked, because of how much I have been helping my Dad fuel his wet & wild midlife crisis. Okay, I guess it isn’t quite as nuts as it could be. Basically what he did was to go and dress himself up like the Fonz or something, and drop by to my crib and tell me, in his jazziest dialect: “Get in, son, you and I are going out looking for some classic Mustangs for sale. You better believe it, dude, I’m all set to get myself a real cruiser.”

So next he & I were off to a couple of those weird classic car places that most people are just about convinced are not quite on the up and up, and I am just awed my dad cut a check right there on the spot, for an alarmingly sparkly classic Ford Mustang. It’s an intense machine. It sounded really nice too.

There’s a reason why I phrased that in a past tense. It sounded great until it seized up completely. My Dad says that it is just a simple fix and he just needs the right part. I’m thinking, it can’t possibly be as easy to pick up classic Ford Mustang parts as it was some a million years ago, but my Dad informs me there is a pretty nice-sized availability for them regardless. It seems like the the easiest way to find parts for 1965 Mustangs is through web auctions, because you can get them refurbished and occasionally as good as they were 30 years ago. Not necessarily a steal, however… Get real, we’re talking about ancient Ford Mustang parts.

Not the worst midlife crisis ever, I guess. He might’ve decided to buy a mail-order bride.
